What exactly is accounting?Anyone who has ever worked in an office at some point or another has had to go to the accounting office. These are the people who pay the bills that keep the business running and they keep an eye on the company's profits, costs and losses. Without some form of accounting, there would be no way of knowing just how profitable - or not - the business is.Think of how accounting is critical to any business. Farmers, for instance, need to follow careful accounting procedures. Many of them run their farms year to year by taking loans to plant the crops and then if it's a profitable year, they can pay off their loan. If the year is not profitable, the loan will be carried over to the next year and accrue more interest charges. Every business and every individual has some kind of accounting system in their lives. Otherwise, the money management can get away from them. They wouldn't know what has been spent, or whether a profit or a loss is expected from their business. Whether it is accounting for a multi-billion dollar business or for a personal checking account, constant, regular accounting activity on a daily basisis required to maintain full awareness of the financial status. Not doing so can mean anything from a bounced check or posting a loss to a company's shareholders. Early awareness can prevent a world of problems. |
